ecome a hot commodity. This new legal drug has been reported to act as a stimulant in low doses and a sedative in high doses.
Kratom is derived from the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa tree. A tree native to Thailand and Southeast Asia. Now banned in Thailand, Kratom can be found in hedge shops across the country. Sold as both loose leaves and capsules, a package of kratom on average sells for $30-40 a package. Some hedge shops have reported that Kratom has become one of their biggest selling items.
Hedge shop owners have reported customers purchasing Kratom to help from opiate withdrawls. In high doses, Kratom has been reported to act as a sedative and painkiller. In theory, it helps ease the discomfort caused from opiate withdrawals.
My rule of thumb- regardless of what it’s intent, if it’s sold in a hedge shop and not your local walgreens, you probably shouldn’t mess with it for medicinal purposes. To me, Kratom’s purpose is clear, its another designer drug that is legal buy and consume in the US. Like the other designer drugs, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear about Kratom under scrutiny from local and federal agencies soon.
